Real Estate Entries: Adapting to Singapore, being a mother, and building a career in real estate
Meet Rayla
She was part of the construction industry for 6 years before getting her real estate licence. Rayla moved from China to Singapore in 2008.
She started as a part-timer, as she was juggling being a new mother and managing her household..
With much perseverance, hard work and the right guidance, she is now on the right track to becoming a successful realtor in Singapore.
Was being a property agent always what you wanted to do or was it something that you fell into?
I am always interested in real estate, however I didn’t really expect to be a salesperson. I was hoping to transition from a building construction company to a property developer firm, however that did not work out. After entering this industry, I really fell in love with this job. Witnessing my clients upgrading their property portfolio as well as making profits from real estate, it gives me immense work satisfaction.
Tell us why you left your other agency? Any stories you would like to share
Before joining BCD, I was really struggling with this career. I wanted to be a full time agent but somehow, I had no clue how to start, especially when I needed to balance work and family as a mum of two boys. I forked out lots of money on all types of marketing and advertising, but the result was very minimal. With the imbalance of expenses and income, I almost quit and tried to find another job with a fixed pay. Luckily I met Benson before I made the move.
Tell us more about why you decided to join BCD, and how Benson has helped you?
Benson is not the type of leader who will just recruit, for the sake of having the quantity of people in his team. He believes in spending time onboard his team and for this reason, he sat down with me, understood my history, my background, my family situations, and my character.
From there, he customized a career path for me that will be different from the path he plans for other agents, suppose it's a one-size-fits-one approach. As everyone is different, something working for someone might not work for me.
For example, as a mum of 2 boys, I’m unable to spend all my time and energy at work, I have to balance work and family. Benson who is also a parent of 2 boys fully understands my situation, that’s why he never encouraged me to do those activities that will burn my nights, instead he planned a routine for me that I mostly work in daytime when my kids are in school, and weekends when my husband is able to take care of kids.
Benson also provided me with lots of support when I just started. I witnessed how he conducts viewings and how he closes deals. He also allowed me to manage some of his listings, which obviously is an eye opener and a great way to learn the ropes. Observing and putting into practice what I’ve learnt helped me grow at an exponential rate.
Benson does not believe in spending too much on marketing and advertising before achieving the skills of constantly closing. I really appreciate that because as self-employed individuals , we bear most of the cost, hence having a leader who can help you to spend less and achieve more is really a blessing.
BCD is not a big team, everyone here is kind and we take care of each other like a family. If you are tired of office politics, and looking for a dynamic and diverse team with full energy and positive vibes, you will love it here.
What is your goal for yourself?
In 2020, the first year I worked as a full time property agent, I was building on my fundamental knowledge and skill set.
In this year 2021, I am working on building up my work system and self branding. I am hoping by the end of year, my sales performance can be triple than that last year.
In the next year 2022, my goal is to be in the top 10% in PropNex.
At BCD, our focus is on you. With proper guidance and support, top 10% does not seem too far away. Feel free to contact us to find out more on how we can help YOU reach your goals.
